A session on “Alert Mumbaikar” was organized by the Student Development Cell on Monday, October 30th, 2023, at 1:30 pm. 37 students were present for the session.
Director, Prof. Dr. Vidya Hattangadi, welcomed the attendees and introduced the police officers. Following this, Mr. Sandeep Patil, Assistant Police Inspector from Nagpada Police Station, initiated the session with a comprehensive discussion about cybercrime. He covered various topics, such as drug abuse, video calling etiquette, the recording and potential misuse of WhatsApp calls, as well as the tendency of people to believe and fall prey to scams in social media messages. Additionally, he explained how third-party apps can misuse our data and how unknowingly we often allow multiple applications to misuse our data. Mr. Patil also spoke about the importance of using two-step authentication methods for logging into social media websites to safeguard accounts and data from theft.
Mr. Azhar Shaikh, Police Sub-Inspector, emphasized the dangers of drug abuse and addiction and highlighted the destructive impact of addiction on people’s lives and provided guidance on how to overcome these challenges. The discussion also included the topic of sextortion and what steps to take in case of a lost mobile phone. Mr. Shaikh mentioned the CEIR website and explained the necessary procedures for filing a complaint about a lost mobile phone, including how to deactivate the phone’s IMEI to prevent further use.
During the session, some students raised questions about corruption. API Sandeep Patil explained the different types of corruption, including Nazrana, Mehentana, and Jurmana, providing a comprehensive understanding to the students.
