On the occasion of World Environment Day, The Community Service Unit of Maratha Mandir’s Babasaheb Gawde Institute of Management Studies, in collaboration with Khushiyan Foundation, organized a beach clean-up drive at Prabhadevi Beach. The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of environmental conservation and the detrimental effects of plastic pollution on marine ecosystems.
A total of 36 enthusiastic students, accompanied by 04 dedicated faculty members and the esteemed presence of Director Prof. Dr. Vidya Hattangadi, actively participated in the clean-up drive. Despite the scorching sun, the volunteers exhibited commendable enthusiasm and determination towards the cause. Throughout the event, participants meticulously combed through the sandy shores, collecting litter and plastic waste. Their concerted efforts resulted in the successful collection of 40 kilograms of plastic waste from the beach, significantly contributing to the restoration of the coastal ecosystem. The clean-up drive not only served as a practical demonstration of environmental responsibility but also fostered a sense of community engagement and solidarity among the participants. It underscored the institute’s commitment to promoting sustainable practices and instilling a sense of environmental stewardship among its students and faculty.
As the event concluded, participants handed over the collected waste to the The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) members and left the beach with a profound sense of accomplishment, knowing that their collective efforts had made a tangible difference in preserving the natural beauty of Prabhadevi Beach and safeguarding marine life from the perils of plastic pollution.
