Changing face of Forensics
Maratha Mandir’s Babasaheb Gawde Institute of Management Studies under its Student Development Cell has organized a seminar on “Changing face of Forensics” on 16th August 2022. The seminar was conducted by Dr. Rukmani Krishnamurthy, the first forensic scientist in India with 35 years of experience in Forensic Science. Dr. Krishnamurthy is currently Chairman & CEO of Helik Advisory Ltd. She has been an Academic Council Member, Gujarat Forensic Science. She has been an Ex-Director, Directorate of Forensic Science Labs, Dept. of Home, Government of Maharashtra. She has also been an Ex-Senate Member at the University of Mumbai. In her seminar, she shared her experiences and journey in Forensics. She discussed many famous and prominent cases where she was a part of the investigation team. She also discussed a few Hi-Tech Crime Cases and how they dealt with them. Along with her, there was Mr. Sunil Koli who also guided our students about Cyber Crimes and cyber-attacks. There were 22 students present for the seminar and it was very informative for them.
Dr. Krishnamurthy was involved as the female investigation officer in the following high-profile cases: 1993 bomb blast, 7/11 train blast, Telgi stamp case, Dr. Mahajan murder case, Nagpur Naxalite murder case. She also explained the Indian evidence act 1872. She explained about the various types of crimes happening and how they investigate these heinous crimes. She also explained how the terrorist had used a pencil timer for the bomb blast.
The crimes such as cheque forgery and ink spillover were also investigated by her. She also spoke about the various types of tests that are conducted such as DNA, Narco, Polygraphic, Brain signature profiling, stylometry examination, fingerprint, and signature analysis.
