Hon’ble Sharad Pawar – President of Maratha Mandir & Member of Parliament expressed his views on the topic of online education on 19th Dec 2020in the Annual General Body Meeting of Maratha Mandir. The excerpts of his speech are as follows:
“The Covid 19 pandemic has disrupted worldwide education system. Schools and universities haven’t faced this level of disruption in generations. The new system of virtual education from nursery to PG level has changed the classroom equation between teacher and students. Also, the online education has disrupted financial condition of the educational institutions very badly.
However, this alternative medium has also brought to the fore some stark realities of Indian society characterised by social disparities in terms of availability of resources to all students in metros as compared to rural India. Rayat Shikshan Sanstha which serves 4 lakh students, saw 86% attendance on an average; but then online education attendance can be managed flexibly. Transition from classroom to online is facing many problems. We should be concerned about students studying in the interiors of the State where lakhs of schoolchildren face difficultly completing online assignments due to accessibility of internet.
However, the role of educational institutions cannot be underrated they have to take on bigger responsibilities in the present situation.”
