Fire Safety Mock Drill – A Life-Saving Exercise
To create awareness among the students about disaster management, a mock fire and evacuation drill involving students of MMS Sem I & III and teachers was conducted on 12 December 2022. The fire personnel displayed the fire-fighting techniques and the ways to respond swiftly in times of such emergency.
A group of teachers and student volunteers armed with the necessary paraphernalia required for firefighting and rescue operations positioned themselves at vantage points to guide and assist the students in the mock fire and evacuation drill. Once all had assembled on the ground, they were advised not to panic in case of any disaster.
The “evacuation” operation began immediately after the fire alarm alerted the students. The students were immediately evacuated from their classrooms and asked to gather at the assembly area. Mr. Deepak Pawar guided them to follow safety tips. He explained the functioning of a fire extinguisher and its types and spoke of the Dos and Don’ts regarding the possibilities of fire. Students were called to operate the fire extinguishers independently.
Registrar Mr. Yogesh Sawant monitored the mock drill. He addressed the assembly and interacted with students regarding their perception of this drill. He gave certain tips to be followed in the time of emergency and tips to avert the same.
The mock drill was carried out in the College to prepare students and teachers for any such eventuality under the fire risk reduction program. The purpose was to check the readiness of the college to face any such fire emergency and to make the students and staff aware of the Fire Fighting Rescue Operation.
