The Placement and Corporate Relations Cell of Maratha Mandir’s Babasaheb Gawde Institute of Management Studies organised a 5-night 6-day industrial visit to Jodhpur and Jaisalmer from January 21 to January 26, 2024. 50 students (18 girls, 32 boys) and two faculty members travelled by the Suryanagari Express to Jodhpur. They travelled by Ac bus to Jaisalmer, a seven-hour drive with a refreshment halt. In Jaisalmer, the stay was a royal one. We visited the War Museum and Gadisar Lake. The following day was a visit to the famous Sonar Fort (Jaisalmer Fort) and the Nathmal ji Ki Haveli and Patwa Haveli. We also visited the archaeological site of Kuldhara, the deserted village. The group proceeded to Sam Desert Camp where the stay was in tents. The evening safari, followed by the cultural performances was highly entertaining. Jodhpur, our next destination included shopping, site seeing and the industrial visit. We visited R.K. Textile Mill and understood the operations and overall functioning of a textile mill. Mr. Ravi Chordia, proprietor warmly welcomed us and took us around the factory. His staff explained the process of selection of fabric and the quality checks that it undergoes before being shortlisted for dyeing and printing. He explained the process of mixing colours, making samples and then printing on the fabric. He showed the various chemicals that are used to get the desired colour combination and sheen to a fabric. He took the students to the final output where packaging was done. It was an enlightening visit. The next was a visit to one of India’s largest daily ‘Dainik Bhasker’. It was interesting to watch the students take a keen interest in the printing and circulation process. The plant manager Mr. Moola Ram explained the story behind each newspaper. The journey from a blank roll to page setting, advertisements and the final news sheet. They print 36000 copies an hour and an average of 1 lakh copies per day from the Jodhpur plant. The visit ended with some local shopping at the Ghanta Ghar and a visit to Mehrangarh Fort.
The team returned to Mumbai by Bhagat Ki Kothi Dadar Express on 26th January 2024 with fond memories.
