Start-up idea competition
Innovation and entrepreneurship are driving forces of economic growth and social development in today’s modern society. On Friday, 12th August 2022 a competition was organized for start-up ideas. The start-up idea Competition was designed to facilitate the development of great ideas and help those ideas find fulfillment. The participants gave brilliant presentations explaining their strategies and implementation of the same.
Our alumnus Mr. Faisal Shaikh came to judge the competition. He is an entrepreneur who researches two-wheelers and procures them for his two showrooms. He is also a budding politician and is an alert citizen who works for the Byculla constituency with regard to comprehensive emergency notification services, he alerts the police and the BMC officials about emergency situations or critical news.
The criteria for assessment were as follows:
Workability of the idea with financial tie-up, the structure of the organization, name of the organization, finished product, marketing plan and break even with cashflow, group presentation.
Five ideas were presented as follows:
- An ad agency for only making government ads: The group presented a video clip of an advertisement showing a municipality school in which the gram sevikas promote Whisper sanitary napkins to young girls in the classroom. In the class, one girl is showed worried about her forthcoming high jump competition because she doesn’t know how to tackle her menstrual period during the event. The gram sevikas give her the whisper sanitary pad and the girl participates in state level competition of high jump and wins a prize.
- Mobile app for Telugu Matrimony: In Andhra Pradesh, the Telugu people follow their own traditions while conducting a wedding. Telegu weddings are known for their deep-rooted traditions and the jovial spirit of their ceremonies. The majority of Telugus don’t like marrying other castes therefore the matrimonial app has a high scalability. The features were creatively made by the students.
- Political Election Campaign agency: Political campaign management is not just about the promotion of a political organization, but also about maintaining a relatable image of the same. The paradigm shift from traditional methods of political advertising to now an extravagant activity is fast-changing in today’s political scenario. The group researched Prashant Kishor’s (renowned political strategist in India) campaigning style to make their own strategies.
Digital marketing for political campaigns is also very crucial as most of today’s generation lives behind screens. Flags Communications is one of those political marketing firms that understand the importance of both traditional advertising and digital political advertising to reach the widest possible audience. The group gave a presentation on campaign strategies for the Mulund constituency - 4. Attendance App for MLAs in Vidhan Sabha: MPs are barred from using laptops inside the House, the app comes in handy for parliamentary information for MPs during a debate in the House. In the future, the MPs can log in for attendance, give questions for Question Hour, or submit notices for debates or adjournment motions. The students used their creativity in adding many features such as proceedings in Vidhan Sabha, attendance of MPs, who asked which questions, arguments, and solutions, availability of archival data, etc. The group gave a fabulous presentation.
- Selling Assamese wedding outfits: The wedding ceremonies in Assam are referred to as ‘Biya’ in the native language of the state. Assamese weddings are subtle, simple, and yet an elegant affair, with rituals firmly grounded in the culture. The traditional wedding attire for Assamese men includes Kurta, Dhoti, and Cheleng – an Assamese-style shawl that is to be draped around the neck. All these are preferably made of silk, specifically Muga Silk, a specialty of Assam. Apart from a flower garland he has to wear a garland made of Indian Basil (Tulsi) leaves and stems. The traditional bridal dress in Assam is known as Mekhla Chadar. For weddings, it is preferred that the Mekhla Chadar is made of Muga silk and is often woven with gold and silver Zari threads. The group presented its marketing plan and promotion strategies. They had brought the wedding trousseau to the classroom
The Government is creating a positive entrepreneurial atmosphere in the nation. We try to create virtual team building exercises through such competitions and we believe that unconventional start-up ideas can become widely successful businesses.
