The Green Club Committee of MMBGIMS organized an inspiring session on Ecopreneurship (Trash to Treasure) for the MMS Semester I and III students on 25th September, 2024, between 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM.  A total of 88 students from both the MMS batches 2023-25 & 2024-26 participated. The event began with the introduction of Ar. Nahida Ma’am, who then led the session.

It was an interactive session that focused on how to create something valuable from waste. Various global case studies were discussed, such as “Fab Brick” from Australia, which produces tiles from waste materials. Another case study highlighted Gjenge Makers in Kenya, a company that recycles plastic waste into construction materials, such as high-quality paving blocks and bricks. Gjenge Makers have recycled over 200,000 kilograms of plastic by combining it with sand to create innovative building products, including plastic paving blocks and tiles.

The session also featured MyH2O, a data platform that addresses water safety issues in rural China by providing solutions such as an app to help residents locate clean water and monitor groundwater quality. Additionally, Max Hidalgo, the founder of Yawa, was mentioned for developing portable wind turbines capable of harvesting up to 300 liters of water per day from atmospheric humidity and mist.

At the end of the session, Ar. Nahida Ma’am gifted one of her books to a student who actively participated and shared ideas on sustainability. The session concluded with a vote of thanks to Ar. Nahida Ma’am from the faculty.

    Learning:

Students learned how waste materials can be transformed into valuable products, with real-world examples like recycled construction materials and innovative water harvesting technologies.

    Feedback:

Students found the session highly interactive and inspiring, appreciating the practical insights on sustainability and the creative approaches to solving environmental issues
