National Cotton Candy Day
National Cotton Candy Day is celebrated every year on December 7th in the United States to honor this fun and sweet treat. Cotton candy, also called “fairy floss” or “candy floss,” was invented in the late 1800s by a dentist, Dr. William Morrison, and a confectioner, John C. Wharton. It became popular after being showcased at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair and is now a favourite at fairs and amusement parks worldwide.
Students attended a quiz on “How well do you know National Candy Day” and did research on candy floss and sweet marts in Mumbai however their study showed that cotton candy has become less popular over time. People’s tastes have shifted toward more exciting and flavourful snacks, and health concerns about sugary foods have made cotton candy less appealing. It is often seen as unhealthy since it is mostly sugar. Urbanization has also played a role, as cotton candy vendors are less common in cities, and modern stores focus more on packaged snacks. Additionally, there hasn’t been much innovation in cotton candy flavors or styles to keep it interesting for younger generations.
Despite its decline, cotton candy could make a comeback in India with creative ideas. Adding new flavors, better packaging, and combining it with desserts or drinks could attract attention. Fun and nostalgic marketing, especially on social media, might also help bring this classic treat back into the spotlight.
