Guest Session – Alert Mumbaikar & Self Defence

The Community Servicet Unit CD) of MMBGIMS organized an “Alert Mumbaikar & Self-Defence Awareness Session” to equip students with essential safety awareness, vigilance, and practical self-defence skills. Conducted by Ms. Gazala Azad, Ex-Defence Officer, and Ms. Sadiya Merchant, Senior Crime Journalist, the session highlighted the importance of staying alert in public spaces, responding responsibly during accidents or emergencies, and using social media thoughtfully to report suspicious activities. Students were also guided on the use of women’s helplines, recognising danger signals, and being proactive as responsible citizens.
Ms. Azad demonstrated easy-to-apply self-defence techniques, including wrist-release methods and using a dupatta to raise alarm during a kidnapping attempt, while stressing the need for mental strength, fitness, and avoiding misleading online content. Students found the demonstrations practical, empowering, and impactful. Overall, the session effectively strengthened students’ confidence, awareness, and readiness to handle real-life safety challenges.
A total of 62 students and 8 faculty members participated enthusiastically and gained new safety skills.
