Over 85 participants join hands with the NGO and Mumbai Police officers for a campus-wide road safety initiative under the Social Marketing curriculum
10th Mumbai, March 2026: In a powerful demonstration of academic initiative meeting social responsibility, students of the Second Year MMS (Marketing) programme at Maratha Mandir’s Babasaheb Gawde Institute of Management Studies (MMBGIMS), Mumbai, successfully organised a wide-reaching Road Safety Awareness Campaign on campus. The event brought together 70 students, 15 teaching and non-teaching staff members, senior Mumbai Police officials, and an NGO (WIAA) dedicated to road safety creating one of the most well-attended and impactful student-led public awareness drives seen in Mumbai’s management education circles.
A Live Project with Real Impact
The campaign was conceived and executed as a live project by MMS SEMESTER IV students ( Marketing Specialization) under the guidance of Dr. Jessica Fernandes for the subject Social Marketing , making it unique in its hands-on, community-first approach. Planning began on 9th February 2026, and from 26th February 2026, the student team conducted a structured pre-campaign survey within the campus, gathering responses from approximately 52 participants to assess baseline road safety awareness. The survey covered knowledge of traffic signals, road signs, helmet and seatbelt usage, and legal consequences of traffic violations. Findings from this research shaped the content and activities of the campaign.
NGO and Mumbai Police Lend Authority to the Campaign
The event was further enriched through collaboration with Western India Automobile Association (WIAA), an NGO dedicated to promoting road safety awareness. Ms. Ranjit Kaur Virk addressed the audience and highlighted the importance of individual responsibility in ensuring safer roads. She also spoke about WIAA’s “Heads on Project” and the Good Samaritan Certificate, which recognises citizens who actively contribute to road safety and assist accident victims.
The campaign also received support from Mumbai Police, with four distinguished officers attending the event. ASI Tondwalkar Saheb, HC Sahadev Padwal, HC Manoj Sadruk, and Retired PSI Paradkar Saheb addressed students and staff, sharing their frontline experiences with road accident prevention and traffic law enforcement. Their presence transformed the event into a meaningful dialogue between law enforcement and the next generation of responsible citizens.
NGO Collaboration and Distribution of Goodies
A standout feature of the campaign was the formal collaboration between MMBGIMS and a road safety NGO. The NGO reciprocated with enthusiasm — distributing goodies to all 70 students and 15 staff members as a token of encouragement, with special goodies presented to the student organisers in recognition of their efforts. The partnership is expected to extend into future community road safety drives.
Engaging Activities Capture Student Attention
The event featured a lively Road Safety Quiz conducted by student anchors with five teams from FY and SY classes competing vigorously. A student-produced digital advertisement highlighting helmet use, signal adherence, and distraction-free driving was screened to an appreciative audience. Personal testimonials from students and staff added an emotional depth to the programme, with participants sharing real experiences and pledging safer road behaviour.
“Road safety is not just a rule; it is a responsibility.” This message rang through every activity of the campaign, reminding every participant that safer roads begin with individual choices.
Outcomes and the Road Ahead
The campaign reached over 85 participants directly on campus and marks the beginning of a sustained road safety partnership between MMBGIMS and the collaborating NGO. The institute plans to carry forward this initiative with community outreach programmes and a post-campaign survey to measure attitude change among participants.
