Mumbai, 26 September 2026: Maratha Mandir’s Babasaheb Gawde Institute of Management Studies (MMBGIMS), Mumbai, held the first meeting of the newly constituted Advisory Board for its AICTE-approved MBA in Banking and Finance Management, with eminent professionals from the banking, financial services, insurance, capital markets and technology sectors providing valuable inputs on strengthening the programme’s industry relevance.
Objectives of formation of the Advisory Board for AICTE approved MBA in Banking and Finance Management
The broad objectives of the Advisory Board would be to:
- Provide strategic guidance for the continuous development of the MBA in Banking and Finance Management.
- Advise on curriculum design, revision and emerging areas of specialization.
- Recommend innovative and industry-oriented teaching and learning methodologies.
- Facilitate meaningful collaborations with industry associations, financial institutions and professional bodies.
- Facilitate industry interaction through guest lectures, workshops, masterclasses and practitioner sessions.
- Identify opportunities for joint research, case development, executive education and consulting projects.
- Provide insights into emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence, and their implications for the BFSI sector.
- Support the organization of industry-focused events and conclaves.

The meeting was chaired by CA Shri Abhijeet Deshmukh, Vice President, MM’s BGIMS.
Welcoming the members, Dr. Samadhan Khamkar, Director, MMBGIMS, emphasised the importance of industry-oriented education and practical exposure for management students. Prof. (Dr.) Anita Bobade presented the legacy of the Maratha Mandir Trust and the evolution of BGIMS as a centre of excellence in south Mumbai. She also informed, that, the BFSI sector is undergoing rapid transformation driven by digital banking, artificial intelligence, fintech, regulatory developments, evolving customer expectations, data analytics, cybersecurity, digital payments, wealth management and new financial products and services. These developments require BFSI professionals to get management education aligned with contemporary industry practices and emerging skill requirements.
The discussions focused on aligning the programme with the changing requirements of the Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) sector. Members stressed the importance of banking fundamentals, banking operations, regulatory requirements, compliance, governance, risk management and co-operative banking. The Board also recommended greater emphasis on case studies, internships, field exposure and interaction with industry professionals.
Emerging areas including FinTech, digital banking, data analytics, cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, automation and financial modelling were identified as important components for preparing students for evolving career opportunities. The members also discussed specialised areas such as recovery management, credit restructuring, investment banking and capital markets.
The Board commended the collaboration with the MSCBA (The Maharashtra State Co-operative Banks Association) and recommended exploring collaborations with banks, NBFCs, insurance companies, co-operative federations and financial-sector associations to facilitate internships, guest lectures, workshops and industry exposure. Quarterly interaction between the Institute and industry representatives was also suggested to continuously review and enhance the programme.
The meeting primarily aligns with POI Business Problem Solving: Apply the knowledge of management theories and core business practices to solve complex, real-world business. The think tank of the Advisory, have brainstormed during the meeting to curate MBA for the BFSI Sector
