The Student Development Cell of MMBGIMS organized an International Yoga Day session in Jivajirao Shinde Hall. The session was attended by 31 students, faculty members and staff.
Dr. Jessica Menezes Asst.Professor, MM BGIMS introduced the renowed Yoga Teachers from “The Yoga Class”. Prof. Dr. Vidya Hattangadi, Director MMBGIMS felicitated the guest with a token of our love by giving each one a sapling.
Mr. Aditya Phadke started the session with prayer, chant and meditation. He led the audience in performing the first yoga pose, Vajrasana, which we held for a few minutes before relaxing. Mr. Phadke demonstrated the importance of breathing, emphasizing awareness of our breath and describing it as our best friend. He explained how anxiety can be alleviated through breathing techniques and encouraged us to listen to our subconscious mind in a meditative state.
Ms. Pooja Kothari then took over the session and guided us through Marjariasana (cat pose) and Trikonasana (triangle pose), reminding us to relax after each asana. Next, Mr. Jaikishan Jinde led us in performing standing asanas.
We were honoured to have Dr. Manoj Varade’s special presence, making the day even more informative. Finally, Mr. Aditya Phadke guided us through Savasana (corpse pose).Both students and faculty thoroughly enjoyed the session, realizing the importance of yoga in their lives. Dr. Jessica Menezes ended with the Vote of Thanks and Prof. Dr. Vidya Hattangadi thanked the guest for coming and giving this wonderful session and giving their time to our institute in spite of having a busy schedule.
