The Student Development Cell and Maratha Mandir Free Legal Advice Center of MMBGIMS jointly organized a session on “Women Empowerment: Legal Provisions, the Revised Indian Judicial Code, and Online Frauds and Cybersecurity” on 31st August 2024. A total of 44 students attended the session, along with all the faculty members and staff. The session began with a Maratha Mandir prayer and the lighting of a lamp. Prof. Dr. Vidya Hattangadi facilitated the session with both distinguished panelists.
The first half was presented by Adv. Gauri Chabbria, who highlighted the potential of every woman and emphasized that with determination, anything is achievable. She shared personal experiences and discussed various women’s rights, including the Rights against Exploitation, Right to Freedom of Religion, Maternity Benefit Act, and the Right not to be Arrested at Night. Adv. Gauri Chabbria also addressed the proper treatment of women during rape and sexual harassment cases, emphasizing the need for a female officer to record statements and the importance of privacy during this process.
During the session, Zee News conducted video bytes with audience members about women’s empowerment.
The second half was conducted by Dr. Sharad P. Madiwale on online frauds and cybersecurity. He discussed how to be aware of online scams and played a video clip by IPS Officer Vishwas Nangare Patil about cybercrime incidents and digital detention. Dr. Madiwale also explained how scammers use sextortion, as well as other scams like vishing, morphing, impersonation, updates of KYC, creating false urgency, and obtaining PINs and OTPs of credit cards. He highlighted the Jamtara region as a known hub for such scams.
