The Institutional Social Responsibility committee of Maratha Mandir’s Babasaheb Gawde Institute of Management Studies (MMBGIMS) celebrated World Senior Citizens Day on 21st August 2026 with the theme “Wisdom Beyond Years: A Celebration of Senior Citizens.” The event was organized with the objective of strengthening intergenerational bonds, fostering respect for senior citizens, and encouraging students to understand and appreciate the invaluable contributions of the elderly to society.
As part of the celebration, students were encouraged to create reels and short videos featuring senior citizens. The activity aimed to foster meaningful interactions between students and elderly family members, relatives, or community members while capturing moments of joy, care, respect, and companionship. Students engaged with senior citizens through activities such as promoting digital literacy, participating in walkathons, spending quality time in conversation, appreciating their life experiences and contributions, and presenting small tokens of gratitude or gifts. These interactions highlighted the importance of valuing senior citizens and recognizing the wisdom, happiness, and inspiration they bring to our lives.
The videos highlighted the smiling faces and positive experiences of senior citizens while showcasing the activities that help them remain active, happy, and fulfilled. Students and senior citizens also shared their thoughts on what brings happiness and purpose to their lives, making the activity both engaging and insightful. The reels were submitted to Dr. Jessica Fernandes and were screened during the celebration programme.
The screening session provided an opportunity for students to reflect on the importance of caring for and spending quality time with senior citizens. The event successfully created awareness about the emotional and social needs of the elderly while emphasizing the role of the younger generation in ensuring their well-being and happiness.
The programme reinforced the values of empathy, gratitude, and social responsibility among students. It was heartening to witness the enthusiasm of the participants and the joy reflected on the faces of the senior citizens featured in the videos. The celebration served as a meaningful reminder that the wisdom, experience, and guidance of senior citizens continue to enrich families and society.
