World Senior Citizen Day 2024
The Community Service Unit of Maratha Mandir’s Babasaheb Gawde Institute of Management Studies commemorated World Senior Citizens Day on 21st August 2024. SYMMS students engaged in a heartwarming activity where 10 groups created Reels with Senior Citizens, which were later showcased to the class. This was followed by an insightful session led by our Director, Prof. Dr. Vidya Hattangadi, on the significance of kindness towards Senior Citizens.
Dr. Hattangadi began by playing the song “Jago Mohan Pyare” from the 1956 Hindi film Jagte Raho. The song serves as an emotional reminder of our moral duty to care for the elderly, emphasizing the importance of offering them companionship, respect, and support. She spoke passionately about the necessity of ensuring the safety and comfort of Senior Citizens, valuing their wisdom, and taking proactive steps to prevent their neglect. Through her message, Dr. Hattangadi underscored the importance of living with empathy and compassion, encouraging everyone to embrace the responsibility of caring for the elderly as a reflection of our deeper spiritual and ethical values. Total 44 students participated in World Senior citizen Day along with 9 faculty.
Learning: Small acts of kindness can bring about a change in society and bring a smile to the face of senior citizens.
Feedback: It was an overall great experience to see the reels prepared by students about their experience with senior citizens and an excellent session on acts of kindness by Prof. Dr. Vidya Hattangadi on World Senior Citizen Day
